To the solid ground of Nature trusts the mind that builds for aye — Wordsworth

Chalmers bibliotek har förvärvat arkivrättigheter för Nature. Redan 1869 definierade Nature sina två huvudsyften som:

”First, to place before the general public the gran results of Scientific Work and Scientific Discovery; and to urge the claims of Science to a more general recognition in Education and Dialy Life;

And, Secondly, to aid Scientific men themselves by giving early information o fall advances made in any branch of Natural knowledge throughout the world, and by affording them an opportunity of discussing the various Scientific questions which arise from time to time.” – Nature’s original mission statement, 11 November 1869

Idag är Nature en av de tvärvetenskapliga tidskrifter som citeras oftast med en Impact Factor på 34.480 år 2009. Fortfarande en av naturvetenskapernas viktigaste tidskrift med ett syfte som påminner om det ursprunliga:

”First, to serve scientists through prompt publication of significant advances in any branch of science, and to provide a forum for the reporting and discussion of news and issues concerning science. Second, to ensure that the results of science are rapidly disseminated to the public throughout the world, in a fashion that conveys their significance for knowledge, culture and daily life.” – Nature’s mission statement

Genom åren har man i Nature kunnat läsa om flera stora genombrott och upptäckter, här ett axplock:

• 1938 –  Superfluidity: a new state of matter av Allan Griffin
• 1953 – The double helix av Sydney Brenner
• 1963 – The quasar enigma av Malcolm Longair

• 1985 – A hole in Earths’s shield av Richard S Stolarski
• 1997 – Dolly! av Davor Solter

Som student och forskare vid Chalmers tekniska högskola har du nu möjlighet att söka, bläddra och läsa i Nature från 1869 till idag! Men glöm inte att Nature idag är mer än en tidskrift. De ger även ut podcasts, video och tipsar om lediga anställningar.
